Timothy’s Pick: Peter Lauer “Senior” Riesling Fass 6 Saar 2015, $29
This is the quintessential Mosel Riesling: austere, delicate, with core of focused minerality and perfectly balanced acidity. From the Lauer’s western-most parcel, named after the Lauer patriarch’s (“senior”) select parcel (or “fass”), this wine stands at 11.5% with a dry and lingering finish. Notes of peach and green apple are supported by hints of almond and white flowers, with the Mosel’s trademark flintyness showing through to the end. This wine that will win you friends…but you won’t want to share. Then again, who needs friends when you’ve got a killer Riesling? Cheers.
