Spotlight: One of the World’s Elite Wines

We are pleased to offer a wine from one of our favorite producers, Le Pergole Torte from Montevertine.
Martino Manetti is following in the very big footsteps of his father, Sergio Manetti, a larger-than-life Tuscan icon and one of the most important names in the history of Italian winemaking. Sergio took over this 11th century estate in the late ’60s when Chianti was unfortunately becoming world (in)famous for producing wine destined for straw-covered bottles. Frustrated by the regulations of the Chianti Consortium (which he felt hurt the quality of the wine), Manetti opted out – rejecting the Chianti name and making Tuscan wine outside of the system (aka Super Tuscan).
Unburdened by the rules in Chianti, Manetti could now showcase his beloved Sangiovese grapes in their proper princely form – fresh, elegant and complex. All movement of the wine is by gravity and the wine is never pumped, in accordance with the traditional methods of the region.  The wines are bottled without filtration and then held in bottle for at least six months prior to release.
These wines are produced in very small quantities and we are proud to be on the allocation list to receive a small amount each vintage.
