Iconic Wines represent the new wave of Californian winemakers, where two friends interested in wine roll up their sleeves (and the dice), hire a great winemaker (Dan Petroski, Larkmead and Massican) to get them started and teach them how to go forward on their own.
Now on their 6th vintage the two best friends are hitting their stride on their own. The 2016 Heroine Chardonnay may be their best effort to date. Pulling half their grapes from the famed 6 acre Michael Mara Vineyard (tended to by Steve Matthiasson, that also supplies grapes to marquis CA producers like Abe Schoener and Broc Cellars), the other half sourced with great care from Russian River vineyards. All sustainably farmed.
The wine is split into some steel, some neutral oak, and a touch of new oak, and then blended together. It shows great purity of fruit, great aromatics, good acid with a nice roundness and some power. A great example of what the new Californian Chardonnay really is!
