When I first began to learn about French wine, I studied the three most famous regions: Burgundy, Bordeaux and Champagne. But where do you go from there when educating yourself on French wine? Alsace is one answer! There’s no shortage of magical winemakers from each of those areas, but it’s no secret that those wines now command a substantial price tag on restaurants’ lists and our own shelves. While the wines of Alsace remain relatively unknown in retail, there are dozens pedigreed producers making phenomenal wine for a fraction of the cost of the regions listed above.

There are lots of wine stores in the neighborhood and if you tend to drink the same kinds of wine all the time, there are other stores that might be more to your liking. But if you want to explore the world of wine – really get to know the multitude of wine regions and get exposed to different grapes and truly small, artisanal producers – Amsterdam Wine Co can take you on an amazing journey. Thank you, Amsterdam!

After spending most of my nights selling wine to locals and tourists alike, it’s a relief to be able to walk into a local wine store that can give back that same level of attention and passion. Amsterdam Wine Co. will always be my go to spot on the Upper West Side for a great conversation and that perfect bottle of wine.
