Jen’s Pick: Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco 2014

In the hills of Piedmonte Italy is the region of Barbaresco. It is here that Nebbiolo reigns king. Founded in 1958 by a priest of the village of Barbaresco, the cooperative of Produttori was founded on the basis that by working together small growers could survive and thrive. The first three vintages were made in the church basement and then they built a winery across the street. Starting with nineteen growers, today there are 51 members who are in full control of their land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication.
This wine is a pure expression of Nebbiolo from Barbaresco. Medium body with bright red cherry and strawberry fruit, hints of licorice, wet earth and an undeniable note of flowers. A balanced tannic finish with plenty of length and endurance. Grab a bottle and hang onto it for a couple of years, or have it with an egg pasta or risotto, with meats, poultry, or aged cheese.
