When I think about why I love wine, I’m brought back to what my first wine love was. It’s not a particular bottle but rather a specific place. Burgundy, and white burgundy more specifically, was my first “wine moment” that I can recall changing my idea of what wine could be. And now all these years later, I’m still enamored with these wines.
Somewhat new to our shelves here at Amsterdam Wine Co is an entry level bourgogne from the Domaine Michel Gros. It is a beautiful expression of what chardonnay can do in this region. Bright fruit with notes of lemon and orchard fruits with stony minerals and a silky texture. Hints of oak and balanced acidity, this bottle wants a meal. The winemaker Michel Gros recommends snails.
