Carlos’ Pick: Zahel Orangetraube “Orange T” 2014

 Zahel Orangetraube “Orange T” 2014, $21

I love finding unique varietals like Orangetraube, because it keeps my inner wine geek guessing. This German-born, Austrian-grown beauty come straight from Vienna! Originally picked from wild vines in 1840, it is rarely bottled as a single varietal wine. With notes of orange blossom, lemon and peach, and great acidity to keep it fresh, it’s a delicious and unique springtime wine. Zahel is the only winemaker to make wines from 100% of this aromatic and slightly orange-skinned grape. Delicate enough to go with ceviche or Thai food, yet hearty enough to stand up to roast pork.
